Applying to college is really about not missing deadlines. Here's the whole senior year, month by month, so nothing slips. (Confirm exact dates on each college's site.)
Summer before senior year
- Finalize your college list (reach, match, safety).
- Draft your personal statement (Common App, ~650 words).
- Plan any SAT/ACT retake for the fall.
August–September
- Create your Common App account; start supplemental essays.
- Ask two teachers for recommendation letters (give them 3–4+ weeks).
- Register for any fall SAT/ACT.
October
- File the FAFSA + CSS Profile when they open (~Oct 1) — file early; aid is often first-come.
- Finish Early Action / Early Decision essays.
- Confirm test scores are sent to your schools.
~November 1 — Early deadlines
